These include the purchase of a cooling plant to control fermentation temperature; the installation of a screw press, the most appropriate for obtaining quality red wines; the installation of conveyor belts to transport the fermented grapes to the press while avoiding damaging them; and the installation of two 11,000-litre stainless steel floating lid fermentation tanks.

France and Spain, both members of the European Space Agency, carried out a field campaign to validate the data supplied by METEOSAT to measure soil moisture and ocean salinity levels by observation from space. The campaign also involved the Satellite Climatology Group of the University of Valencia, the Institute for Mediterranean Desertification Studies and Barcelona Polytechnic University.

BODEGAS IRANZO GAINS NOP – USDA CERTIFICATION, CERTIFYING ITS WINES AS ORGANIC IN THE US MARKET.

Ecocert International, a body accredited by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), certifies that Bodegas Iranzo wines comply with the requirements of the US National Organic Program (NOP).

Finca Cañada Honda – Barrica 2000 received a “Commended” award at The International Wine & Spirit Competition in London http://www.iwsc.net It is worth remarking that this was the only Spanish organic wine honoured at the competition.

This was a joint exercise by ESA and NASA to calibrate the GERB and CERES sensors over the VALENCIA ANCHOR STATION, located at Cañada Honda. The campaign also involved the Satellite Climatology Group of the University of Valencia, Barcelona Polytechnic University and the National Meteorology Institute, who programmed several passes over the estate to record measurements from space.

GIST (GERB INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE TEAM), INCLUDING REPRESENTATIVES OF ESA AND NASA, VISITS CAÑADA HONDA.

On 18 May, a group of scientists from the Universities of Valencia and London, and representatives of the European Space Agency and NASA, visited Cañada Honda to organise the joint mission involving both organisations’ satellites and the Valencia Anchor Station, located on the estate.

Finca Cañada Honda – Cask Fermented Merlot 2000 was awarded a Bronze Medal at the National Quality Organic Wines Competition in Córdoba, organised by Córdoba Provincial Council.

Finca Cañada Honda – Crianza 2000 was rated as the second best Crianza wine in the Valencian Community, which includes the Alicante, Valencia and Utiel-Requena D.O.’s, by the Asociación Els Bodeguers, the trade association for the wine distribution sector in the City of Valencia.

Finca Cañada Honda – Barrica 2000 was awarded a Silver Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, held in Brussels.

At the invitation of Mountain People, Bodegas Iranzo was present at The Natural Products Expo West Anaheim Convention, held in Los Angeles, California. The estate’s various wines were exhibited and sampled at a tasting session organised by Mountain People at the Marriot Anaheim Hotel.

		Issue number 10 of the magazine “Color-Aroma-Sabor”, edited by the Utiel-Requena D.O., carries a lengthy article about Bodegas Iranzo with numerous illustrations.
		The same issue carries another article about the district’s flora micro-reserves, particularly featuring the micro-reserve on the Cañada Honda estate.

As it has done every other year since 1999, Bodegas Iranzo exhibited its wines at Millesime Bio, held this year in Narbonne, France.
