INAUGURATION OF NEW PLANT
IN THE WINERY.
In its unceasing efforts to
optimise the quality of its wines, Bodegas Iranzo has
introduced a number of improvements in the winery which
will come into service during the 2003 vintage.

These include
the purchase of a cooling plant to control fermentation
temperature; the installation of a screw press, the most
appropriate for obtaining quality red wines; the installation
of conveyor belts to transport the fermented grapes to
the press while avoiding damaging them; and the installation
of two 11,000-litre stainless steel floating lid fermentation
tanks. |

SMOS (SOIL MOISTURE AND
OCEAN SALINITY) MISSION CAMPAIGN OVER CAÑADA HONDA.
France and Spain,
both members of the European Space Agency, carried out
a field campaign to validate the data supplied by METEOSAT
to measure soil moisture and ocean salinity levels by
observation from space. The campaign also involved the
Satellite Climatology Group of the University of Valencia,
the Institute for Mediterranean Desertification Studies
and Barcelona Polytechnic University. |

METEOSAT, TERRA AND ACQUA
SATELLITE CAMPAIGN OVER CAÑADA HONDA.
This was a joint
exercise by ESA and NASA to calibrate the GERB and CERES
sensors over the VALENCIA ANCHOR STATION, located at Cañada
Honda. The campaign also involved the Satellite Climatology
Group of the University of Valencia, Barcelona Polytechnic
University and the National Meteorology Institute, who
programmed several passes over the estate to record measurements
from space. |

On 18 May, a group
of scientists from the Universities of Valencia and London,
and representatives of the European Space Agency and NASA,
visited Cañada Honda to organise the joint mission
involving both organisations’ satellites and the
Valencia Anchor Station, located on the estate.

Finca Cañada Honda – Crianza 2000
was rated as the second best Crianza wine in the
Valencian Community, which includes the Alicante,
Valencia and Utiel-Requena D.O.’s, by the
Asociación Els Bodeguers, the trade association
for the wine distribution sector in the City of
Valencia.
